Fabulously Simple Home-made Party Munchies

Now how do you get bursts of energy to keep up with the excitement and various activities during a hen party? From munching on delicious snacks, of course!

Here are some ideas for perfect hen party snacks to satisfy the munchies. They are a breeze to whip up and trust me, you wouldn’t be able to resist them.

1. Crackers with hazelnut spread and fresh bananas

This works with any type of plain crackers available on market shelves. Just spread delicious, creamy hazelnut spread (read: Nutella) and arrange fresh banana slices on them for a satisfying sweet treat.

 

2. Microwaved chocolate cake in a mug

You can prepare mugs of chocolate cake mixture for the girls in advance. Whoever feels like a chocolate buzz could crack an egg into her mug, mix it all up, stick the mug into the microwave and voila, a beautiful chocolate cake in a mug that takes only a minute to bake!

 

3. Crushed frozen pineapple and mint

This is a refreshing dessert that’s not only easy to make but very healthy too. Just chop up canned pineapples into chunks, pour it into a flat tray and sprinkle chopped mints all over. Freeze for a couple of hours and it’s ready to be served.

 

4. Frozen berry yogurt drops

The best thing about these yogurt drops is that that can be made days, even weeks in advance. Mix plain yogurt with fresh berries and honey to taste. Then, spoon yogurt in button-sized drops (or pipe them out) onto a lined baking tin. Freeze for a couple of hours until hardened. To save freezer space, you can remove the drops from the baking tin and store the drops in a freezer bag instead.

 

5. Ham and apple sticks

A delightful blend of sweet and savoury, this must be my favourite snack on this list and it’s incredibly easy to make. Just wrap thin hams (my favourites are Parma, Iberico or Serrano) around apple wedges and tuck in!

 

6. Berry yogurt parfait

Parfait is not reserved just for breakfast; it makes a great treat anytime! All you need are three ingredients – favourite fruits or berries, plain yogurt and granola. Layer the ingredients in a see-through glass for a touch of sophistication. Feel free to prepare the parfaits well in advance so that you won’t have to spend time in the kitchen away from your girls.

 

7. Cheese and fruit skewers

Instead of serving fruits and cheeses on a table, why not make it portable by serving them skewered? My favourite combination is Gouda with cubed melons and apples. Go crazy with the combos!

 

8. Crunchy chickpeas

Delicious and deceptively healthy, all you need is a couple of cans of chickpeas and seasonings. Drain the chickpeas and toss them with olive oil and seasonings of your choice (I like salt and paprika). Lay them on a lined baking tin and bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees celcius for 30 minutes. Then, turn off the oven and let them dry up for an hour before serving.

 

9. Seasoned jicama sticks

Instead of French fries, try seasoned jicama sticks. I love this dish because it doesn’t involve any cooking! Just cut up the peeled jicama into sticks, toss them in lime juice, chilli flakes and salt. Before serving, garnish with lime zest and a sprinkle of chili powder.

 

10. Spicy watermelon

Oh this is such a surprise treat! Who knew watermelon could taste so good with some spices. Mix a teaspoon each of ground coriander, ground cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper and salt together in a bowl. Cut watermelon into cubes and sprinkle them with the spice mixture. The perfect snack for hens who are weight watching!
